Wind Mitigation Inspections in Spring Hill, FL
A wind mitigation inspection is the rare inspection that can actually pay for itself — many times over. Florida law requires insurance companies to give you discounts for features that help your home stand up to wind, but they don’t apply those discounts automatically. You have to prove the features exist, and that proof is a wind mitigation report.

Getting a full home inspection? Wind mitigation is FREE.
Your 4-point too. Other inspectors charge extra for the insurance forms — Jay includes both with every complete home inspection.
What the inspection looks for
Jay documents seven things on the state’s standard wind mitigation form (the OIR-B1-1802):
Building code
When the home was built or re-roofed relative to modern wind codes.
Roof covering
The age and rating of your shingles, metal, or tile.
Roof deck attachment
How the decking is nailed to the trusses.
Roof-to-wall connection
Toe nails, clips, or hurricane straps.
Roof geometry
Hip roofs — sloping on all sides — earn one of the biggest single discounts.
Secondary water resistance
A sealed barrier under the roof covering.
Opening protection
Impact-rated windows, doors, and shutters.
Most of this is verified from your attic and around the exterior — nothing invasive, nothing torn open. The inspection typically takes under an hour, and photos of every feature go on the form.
One inspection. Five years of discounts.
Every home is different, but wind mitigation credits routinely knock hundreds of dollars a year off the wind portion of a Hernando County premium. If your home was built (or re-roofed) after 2002, there’s a very good chance you qualify for credits you’re not receiving.

Wind Mitigation FAQs
Is a wind mitigation inspection required?
No — unlike a 4-point, nobody makes you get one. It’s voluntary, and it exists purely to save you money. Skipping it just means paying full price for wind coverage.
How much can I actually save?
It depends on your home’s construction and your policy, but discounts commonly run from a couple hundred to over a thousand dollars a year. Homes built or re-roofed after 2002 tend to do especially well. Your agent can run the credits from Jay’s report and tell you the exact number.
How long is the report valid?
Five years, as long as nothing about the home changes. If you replace your roof or add impact windows, it’s worth updating the report — those upgrades usually increase your discounts.
Do I need to be home for it?
Jay needs access to the attic and the exterior, so someone does need to let him in — but the whole visit is usually under an hour.
